Darjeeling 1st Flush, Jungpana Estate EX 7 2019
An iconic taste of the season, Darjeeling First Flush teas are eagerly awaited each spring. These light-bodied, fragrant teas are produced in small quantities for only a few weeks, usually beginning in early April; only the new young buds and first leaves are harvested by hand, and they undergo a unique hard-wither process.
We selected this lot at Jungpana Estate, walking up to the 5,000-foot elevation farm for the last time—the first direct road to the production facility opened at the end of 2019. Founded in 1899, this garden is well known for its distinctive teas. This one exhibits the classic floral and sweet flavor profile, with underlying notes of wintergreen and raw walnut. Compare with our other pick from Jungpana, EX 5, with its deep, spicy floral profile.
Region: West Bengal
Tasting Notes: peach, walnut, elderflower
Harvest Season: Spring 2019
This is a high quality Darjeeling. Very smooth and flavorful.
Delicious and simple. Warming us even as we find ourselves cooling off from distancing. We need other people near us, but we can't right now. Tea isn't as good as people, but it is better than anything else.
