Darjeeling 1st Flush, Singell Estate 2019
An iconic taste of the season, Darjeeling First Flush teas are eagerly awaited each spring. These light-bodied, intensely fragrant teas are produced in small quantities for only a few weeks, usually beginning in early April; only the new growth buds and first leaves are harvested by hand, and they undergo a specialized hard-wither process.
This unique lot—from a small heritage section of the Singell Estate, at 5,000 elevation—hails from original China seed bushes first planted in the 1860s. Offering a taste of Darjeeling’s past, the deep golden cup is redolent of green herbs and vegetables, with bright notes of cedar and almond, and a sweet alfalfa fragrance.
