Darjeeling 2nd Flush, Singell Estate
Darjeelings are standouts in the black tea category, renown for their complex aromas and nuanced flavors. The flushes refer to the harvest: second flushes are the second hand-picking of the plants—usually in late April or early May—and the small leaves are fully withered and rolled so as to maximize oxidation.
The Singell Estate is situated in the middle of the Darejeeling region, at 5,000 feet elevation, and was founded in 1871. This lot, DJ 37, is bright but balanced, and displays flavors of sweet nuts (almond and cashew), warm cinnamon spiciness, and a refreshing citrus finish.
