Darjeeling 1st Flush, Jungpana Estate EX 5 2019
An iconic taste of the season, Darjeeling First Flush teas are eagerly awaited each spring. These light-bodied, fragrant teas are produced in small quantities for only a few weeks, usually beginning in early April; only the new young buds and first leaves are harvested by hand, and they undergo a unique hard-wither process.
We selected this EX 5 lot at Jungpana Estate, walking up to the 5,000-foot elevation farm for the last time—the first direct road to the production facility opened at the end of 2019. After infusing, an initial scent of hay and intense, deep floral aromas of marigold and chysanthemum linger in the cup, anchored by bold notes of allspice and a velvety sweet mouthfeel. Note the difference between our other pick from Jungpana, EX 7, which reveals more fruity and nutty flavors.
