Darjeeling 2nd Flush, Goomtee Estate
Darjeelings are standouts in the black tea category, renown for their complex aromas and nuanced flavors. The flushes refer to the harvest: second flushes are the second hand-picking of the plants—usually in late April or early May—and the small leaves are fully withered and rolled so as to maximize oxidation.
This lot (DJ-42), from the beautiful Goomtee Estate at the foothills of the Himalayas, boasts a deep second flush profile: the rich hazelnut and brown sugar flavor is crowned by aromas of tropical fruit and sweet grain. A full-flavored and nutty cup, with notable roundness in the finish, it brings to mind baked goods and pumpkin pie.
