An iconic taste of the season, Darjeeling First Flush tea is eagerly awaited each spring. These light-bodied, distinctive teas are produced in small quantities for just a few weeks, usually beginning in early April; only the new young buds and first leaves are hand-harvested, and they undergo a unique hard withering process.

A bright, green aroma and character defines this lot (DJ 5) from the organic, high elevation Jungpana Estate. Brisk flavors of dandelion root, walnut and herby pesto bring to mind spring fields after rain. It’s an eye-opening cup at any time of the day.

Surprising flavors

I have to admit that I am not a connoisseur of teas - I simply know that I love all of the teas I have ordered from IPOT. I believe that this kind of organization that works with and respects the cultivators in Asia directly is extraordinary. The new Darjeeling First Flush group for 2025 offers a wonderful selection of fresh and interesting flavors. The biggest surprise for me was the Jungpana Estate. At first I found it too strong and waited a few months to try it again. Recently, I decided to steep it very briefly, perhaps 2 minutes and the flavor is incredible. To me there are hints of chocolate but that is not what it says on the label. I invite you to try the Jungpana Estate Darjeeling 1st Flush and see for yourself what flavors you discover depending on how long you steep it.
