Darjeeling Autumnal Flush, Seeyok Estate

$25.75
| /

This Indian black tea is from the organic Seeyok Estate, which faces the Nepal border and averages 5,000 feet in elevation. The autumnal flush, produced in years in which conditions are favorable, consists of leaves hand-harvested in the late fall—October and November—in limited quantities.

The china bush variety makes up this lot (DJ 185), yielding a cup stronger than a traditional second flush Darjeeling, but still smooth, with refined woody notes. Citrus, cocoa powder and cherry dance through the rich amber liquor.

Country: India
Region: West Bengal
Tasting Notes: dark chocolate, berry jam, cedar
Harvest Season: Fall 2024

Autumnal, Brahmsian

Elicits childhood memories of jumping into a pile of autumn leaves - twiggy, fresh, snappy oak leaf with red fruit and orange zest overtones. Drizzly mood with some classical tunes. Medium and round on the palate, and has flexible goalposts for extraction (western) - easy to avoid unwelcome bitterness. There is an ever so slight whiff of smokiness in the backdrop, but as soon as you grab it it disappears just as quickly. Not a tea for milk and sugar in my opinion, it is truly pleasant. Has a fantastic thirst-quenching quality about it. Would absolutely recommend as a daily driver as well as something to behold for more hallowed moments.

Somewhere between a Second Flush and a Breakfast tea

Absolutely love this tea. I have been drinking Darjeeling Second Flush as my primary tea for some time now, but would sometimes miss the... strength? of a breakfast tea. This tea fills that niche perfectly while still expressing the more delicate flavors of a Darjeeling.

Best Darjeeling!

I love this Darjeeling tea. The flavor is perfect- not too mild and slightly floral. I have this everyday!

Fragrant, Yet Hearty

I tasted this Seeyok Estate, Darjeeling Autumnal Flush tea as a selection of IPOT's Omakase Monthly Tea Club. Though I like Darjeeling teas, I usually don't drink them; most of my teas are drunk in the morning--they must wake me up and be delicious! This Darjeeling was a surprise: a lovely delicate scent, but with a hearty, invigorating effect. It is fine plain, but holds up well with milk and a sweetener. I like it so well that I bought two of the regular size packets.
