Sikkim 2nd Flush, Bermiok Estate

$27.25
| /

Friends in Darjeeling introduced us to this new teamaker, who began planting on the Bermiok Estate in Sikkim in 2003 and started production in 2008. Sikkim is a former autonomous kingdom, located north of Darjeeling; remote and very mountainous, it’s also India’s only completely organic agricultural state. Bermiok is the second tea garden in the region, and the producer also experiments with other crops, such as strawberries and coffee.

The beautifully twisted leaves, which are gently shaped by hand, are very tippy, with ample golden buds. When infused, they reveal a soft aroma of rosewater and milk chocolate, opening to a rich, round flavor—similar to a Darjeeling 2nd Flush, but smoother—with sweet notes of candied hazelnuts and grape skin.

Country: India
Region: Sikkim

Lovely and surprising - get it now!

I love a deal so I bought this without knowing about it. So interesting and lovely to drink! It has two distinct dimensions - a deep full base and then an unexpected high floral - almost jasminey - upper register which makes for a dynamic and delightful drink. I just ordered some more. And I loved reading about the grower.

Absolutely marvellous

Okay I never give five stars... well hardly ever... but this one is delicious and incredibly good value. I think it will be worth it at double the price (don't get any ideas). Why is it so special? It's a delicious black tea with this extraordinary tropical flavour that is so pronounced and yet doesn't have any of the ugliness of an artificial flavour… It makes it really fun delicious and interesting to drink. Also because we know where it comes from ( in pursuit of tea doesn't buy from horrible producers) we can assume that everyone working there is treated properly and their practices are good and yet they come up with this absolutely stunning tea... if tea lasted forever I 'd buy an enormous bail of this.... Bravo Sikkim

Deserves More Stars!

I would give more stars if I could. This is the best tea I have ever tasted. Wonderful aroma and taste -- subtle fruit layered over something delicious I can't quite identify. Complex but fabulous. I have always loved Darjeeling so I'm not surprised this comes from the same region. I will definitely buy more, wish it came in a larger package. Tea arrived quickly from the East Coast all, the way to me on the West Coast. Very simple but beautiful resealable packaging. LOVE!

Fabulous

One of the most delicate, nuanced Darjeelings I've ever had.
