Green Tangerine Pu-erh

$33.00
| /

A charming and beautifully balanced take on pu-erh: this small, green tangerine holds loose shu leaves that were harvested and processed on Yunnan’s Bulong Mountain in 2013. The plant variety used is known as zi ya or purple bud for its distinctive leaf color, which comes from a high level of the antioxidant anthocyanin.

The young tangerine skin has developed a wonderful fragrance as it’s aged; savor the sweet and spicy orange aroma alongside the smooth, mellow flavor of the tea. Break off a small portion of the skin and brew it along with the leaves, and enjoy this rich pu-erh through many infusions.

Four tangerines

Each tangerine is approximately 11 g, and holds about two servings.

Tasting Notes: orange, rich, smooth

Great introduction to pu-erh tea

For a beginner this would be an ideal starting point, when new to pu-erh.

I thought the tangerine flavor would be too powerful, but it is quite delicate.

This is a high quality pu-erh tea. One of the better I’ve come across

The packaging of the shu inside the tangerine is a lovely novelty, and the combined aroma of the tangerine and the tea is intoxicating. The brewed tea is delicious and mellow through many infusions.

Somewhat Inconsistent

Overall I enjoyed these and the flavor of the tangerine peel was very nice, but unfortunately I felt the quality of the tea inside was somewhat inconsistent. I don’t expect it to be a high grade of tea, since the primary flavor will be the tangerine, but one of the tangerines had a fishy/oceanic aroma. It was strange that it was only one, so I’m wondering if it has something to do with storage? Anyway, may have been a fluke, and if you like pu’erh stuffed tangerines these are great for the price!
