Sheng Cupcake Pu-erh

$14.00
| /

Pu-erh tea, a fermented style hailing from Yunnan Province, China, has historically been compressed into transportable shapes such as discs or bricks. This version nods to tradition with a modern spin: it’s been formed into small cakes—each approximately 6 grams—ideal for individual servings in a teapot or gaiwan.

The leaves were harvested and processed in 2011 in Lincang, a remote area in southwestern Yunnan. Made in the sheng, or green, style, note the characteristic bright, fruity aroma and flavors of wood and sour plum that last through multiple infusions.

A wonderful introduction to the category—tuck a few into your pocket or bag, and you’ll always be ready to brew!

20 count bag, approximately 4.5 oz total weight

Lovely gift

I bought two packages --- one for myself and another for my godson, who is a tea connoisseur. (It's a Christmas gift, so I don't have his reaction yet!) I discovered pu'erh tea during a business trip to China and have been a fan ever since. I love the serving size concept and the packaging. Lovely.

Love this one cup wonder. Takes the guess work out of enjoying this handmade cake of tea. Smooth and very drinkable.

I really enjoyed the taste of the tea . I liked the fact that it came with some instructions since I never made Pu’erh tea before. It was the first time I used a cafe form of tea. I wasn’t sure whether to break it or put it in the pot whole. I tried to break it but couldn’t. I’m still wondering if I did the right thing.

Hi Faith,

Thanks for your feedback. It sounds like you made it just fine—the Sheng Cupcakes are designed to be a single serving. The leaves are compressed quite firmly, in order to maintain such a small shape, so it would be difficult to try to break up the disk before brewing.

Once you prepare it, the hot water will naturally open up the shape, allowing for dynamic multiple infusions as different portions of the leaves slowly unfurl. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Amazing tea in a great form factor. A wonderful gift idea (mine was a gift for a tea-lover friend and he was thrilled to receive it). He even shared a few cupcakes with me! Go for it, you won’t be disappointed.

Great single-shot serving of puer; raw flavor is medium-strength, and fades to a sweeter variant by the 3rd steeping.
