Lapsang Souchong

Some call this Zhengshan Xiao Zhong (Lapsang Souchong) the original black tea, as it was the first recorded example of the category in the late 1600s.

This lot was grown at high elevation in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province, China, and was not blended with lesser teas from other regions, as is the modern custom. Wood roasting results in a more subtle and refined flavor; these leaves are first withered over fire and rolled, then lightly smoked in bamboo trays over a pine wood fire. The distinctive aroma and round flavor linger for a few infusions.

Try the original version in a limited lot edition from Tongmu Reserve.

the good stuff

I order this tea on a regular basis, it’s wonderful and just smoky enough.

Incredible

My first sip of this Lapsang Souchong was like heaven. Lapsang is one of my favorite teas and this one from IPOT is by far the best I've had. Next time, I will be ordering a pound.

The Best Lapsang Soughing Ever!

I have drunk Lapsang for over 40 years. I have probably tried 20 different varieties of what has become a relatively hard-to-find tea, despite the fact that it was Winston Churchill's favorite. This produces a lighter color than other Lapwings, but its aroma is very smoky and thin as it looks, it is a hearty tea. This will be my go-to tea of the foreseeable future.

Ward, Team IPOT here—thank you so much for your review on both our lapsang souchong. Really glad you enjoyed them both and appreciate their individual characters!

Nice flavor

This tea smells great. It can be brewed twice any still have a good flavor and color. I think some might find it too strong, but I love it.

Perfectly balanced

This Lapsang Souchong was exactly what I was looking for. Unlike an insipid version I recently purchased from a local supplier, this has a rich smoky flavor that is satisfying, but never overbearing. Perfect!

Always my first choice

I enjoy both the exotic aroma and smoky taste of Lapsang. Any other variety is merely a break to increase the pleasure of returning to the old reliable.
