Darjeeling 1st Flush, Giddapahar Estate

$31.25
| /

Eagerly anticipated each spring, Darjeeling First Flush is the initial harvest from plants that have lain dormant all winter. The mountainous region, at the foothills of the Himalayans, has long been celebrated for its dramatic landscape and distinctive teas. For this unique style, the buds and tender new growth are carefully hand-picked, and then undergo an unusual hard withering process to rapidly reduce moisture content in the leaves. This produces the tea's characteristic nuanced fragrances and a light, bright taste.

Translating to Eagle’s Cliff, the Giddapahar Estate sits at elevations around 5,000 feet. Dancing between fruity and spicy, this early lot (DJ 4) boasts brisk flavors of lemon peel and grape skin, tart green apple, orange and cranberry tea loaf. It’s a sophisticated and substantial 1st flush, but still beautifully balanced, with a sweet, candylike finish.
