A chasen, or tea whisk, is painstakingly cut from a single piece of bamboo, and intended solely for use with matcha or other powdered teas like hojicha. The tulip shape and multiple tines help to evenly suspend the fine powder in liquid with a simple, brisk motion. This is the essential tool for a smooth, well-blended bowl of matcha, and the most effective way to avoid clumps.
To maintain the delicate tines, rinse with hot water before and after each use; store upright, or on a matcha whisk holder.

Having improvised with a tiny whisk for a number of years, I was inspired to try my hand at making matcha with a chasen. It really works beautifully, far better than any attempts I had previously made. Thank you IPOT for purchasing and then letting us purchase this authentic instrument with which to make matcha.
