The lightest of our 2nd Flush selections this year, this mid-season lot (DJ 116) is fruity and floral, with a refined aroma of white flowers and sweet cherries. The cup opens with notes of orange blossom that gently give way to a woody, nutty base—a classic example of the style.
Richly fragrant and dynamically flavorful, Darjeelings are jewels of the black tea category. Plucked from the foothills of the Himalayas in late spring—a few weeks after first flush harvest—the small leaves are rolled, fully oxidized and baked before a meticulous final sorting by hand. The organic Jungpana Estate, at 5,000 feet elevation, was founded in 1899 and remains one of the most remote in the mountainous region.
To savor this tea’s nuances, brew with water at a full boil, using slightly less leaf than other black teas.
